Superior boys surprise Red Cloud

Superior opened Friday’s game against the Red Cloud Warrior boys with only a single win this season. Most likely the Warriors expected an easy win. Red Cloud scored first, but the Cats answered and right away it was tied at two . Red Cloud scored and led again 4 to 3, but the Wildcats dominated the remainder of the first quarter. At the end of the fourth the score was 13 to 4. Things looked bright for another Wildcat win.

The second quarter was exceedingly competitive, but the Wildcats continued to do what needed to be done to keep the lead. At the half, the score was 25 to 20. The Wildcats lead by five.

Even in the third quarter there was hope the Wildcats would win. The score was tied at 30 for awhile, but the Wildcats could not stop Gage Ely who dropped in basket after basket. At the end of third quarter, the Wildcats were four points behind with the score at 35-39.

For fans, the game was getting long and boring. One fan said, “At the St. Cecilia game, one about had to break an arm to pick up a foul, while tonight a cross wind fart might get called.”

In the fourth quarter, the Warriors continued to pull away and won the game 63 to 51, a full dozen points ahead. Gage Ely was the star of the show. He completed 28 second half points. He scored 38 overall points for the Warriors. Mason Bohlen and Lucas Armstong each scored 7 points, Josh Held 6 Carlos Horn 4 and Wyatt Giger 1.

Dayne Clark played well for the Wildcats. He lead scoring with 23 points. DeClan Miller 8, Colten Butler 7, Thomas Matthis 6, Jaren Gilbert 4 points and Mason Korb 3.

It was a slow, high fouling game. The Wildcats were 15 of 27 at the free throw line. Red Cloud were 20 of 28. There were 55 free throws shot.

Wildcats dropped to 1 and 14. Red Cloud moved to 10 and 3.

The Wildcats traveled to Deshler, Tuesday. They are scheduled to play Diller-Odell Friday.
