SHS girls claw way back for chance to win in overtime

St. Cecilia arrived in Superior last Tuesday with a defensive plan to shut down Superior's top point makers, Reagan Meyers and Saddie Cornel. During the first quarter the plan worked well. Superior scored only seven points. The Bluehawks disciplined defense double teamed Meyers and Cornel, daring other team members to shoot. Mia Gardner, Sadie Cornel and Regan Meyers each scored two points and Faith Butler picked up one with a free throw. St Cecilia scored 13 in the first quarter.

The second quarter also was rough for the Lady Wildcats who only scored six points while St. Cecilia scored 19. However, things changed in the third. Superior held the Bluehawks to three points while scoring 11.

Superior clawed their way back using matched up zone defense in the second half and by the end of the fourth, the game was tied. The winning shots were completed in overtime with St. Cecilia winning 42 to 39 over the Superior Wildcat girls last Tuesday.

Superior had 39 rebounds to the Bluehawks 34. They were evenly matched with in field goal percentage with Superior at 30 and St. Cecilia with 29 percent. It was the percent of three point shots which made the difference. St. Cecilia made 26 percent of their three point shots while Superior completed only five percent.

It was a tough lost for the Wildcats
