Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, on July 19, 1938, to Carl and Pearl (Bohl- man) Amos, Jacki was the youngest, by far, of the four Amos children. She grew up near the University of Nebraska east campus under the watchful eye of her parents and older siblings. Dick, JoAnn and Sue. In college, Jacki became a member of Phi Mu sorority, Zeta Kappa chapter at Nebraska Wesleyan and majored in English Literature.
Her freshman year at Wesleyan, she met a handsome senior named Jack Nispel and they fell in love. Jack graduated and took a job at Ideal Cement in Superior, Nebraska, as a chemist. They married, after Jacki graduated, on June 28, 1959, in Lincoln. She taught briefly for the Superior School system before welcoming first child, Jill, in 1960, followed by Jerald and James. They transferred briefly to Wilmington, North Carolina, in 1963, before coming back to Superior. She went back to teaching in 1973 and retired from the school system in 1993. After retirement, she successfully ran for and served a term on Superior’s school board. Education was important to her, and she enjoyed teaching and making an impact on her students’ lives. In 1971, she was initiated into PEO, Chapter DS, in Superior and was a lifelong PEO member, her final chapter being GF in Spring, Texas.
After retirement Jack and Jacki relocated to Montgomery, Texas, to be closer to family located in Houston. She got involved in the community and also tapped into her creativity by becoming known for her colorful and innovative quilts. She and Jack spent many years traveling both by barge and car across the country, enjoying exploring new places together.
