A single-engine Cessna Commuter plane owned by Bernadt Aviation flying from the Tecumseh Municipal Airport Sunday morning developed engine problems and was forced to make an emergency landing on U.S. Highway 136 about one mile east of Hebron Sunday morning.
A number of emergency agencies responded to the call for assistance but the pilot skillfully managed to land the aircraft without incident or injury.
After landing the plane was taxied to the Hebron airport located west of the Highways 81 and 136 junction.
After investigation it was determined a fuel supply issue caused the engine to fail. The fuel problem was corrected and the plane successfully took off later that day.
The story was much like one that happened near Lawrence in January of 1935. Albert Hart, an aviator taking a plane to Wichita, made an emergency landing on the Jos. Krebsbach farm. The plane's engine failed when a piston broke.
After the pilot and the farmer made repairs, the plane was able to return to the air and early that afternoon the pilot resumed his trip to Wichita.
