The Superior Wildcats girls basketball team visited one of the newest schools in Nebraska - Standing Bear High School in Lincoln, easily winning the game 56-33, Saturday.
The tempo of the game was strong in favor of Superior, as they played against the girls of Standing Bear with steady and consistent teamwork. Many players contributed to the positive outcome.
Coach Chrissy Ehlers said after the game, "We did a good job at getting the ball to Reagan Meyers and that really helped us out because we like to work inside-out."
Meyers got inside quickly against the Standing Bear Grizzlies, scoring the first basket just 15 seconds into the game.
The Wildcats dominataed the game from the start. Their ability to steal the ball and grab the rebounds gave Superior an advantage.
Faith Butler dropped a 3-pointer from the perimeter which helped propel Superior to a 11-0 lead, with 3 minutes, 21 seconds left in the first.
Standing Bear fans cheered wildly when Jada Welton scored for the Grizzlies who eventually got within 6 points of the Wildcats. The score was 13-7, favor of Superior by the end of the 1st period of play.
As Standing Bear contested for the lead against the Wildcats in the second period, Butler hit with 3-point making the score 16-9 favor Wildcats with 7 minutes remaining in the first half.
Meyers would not be denied access inside. She scored repeatedly in the second quarter which ended with Superior decisively in the lead at 28-13 halftime.
At the start of the third quarter, Emerey Pietzyk came out strong for the Grizzlies with a 3-point shot, raising the home fans hope for a Grizzly comeback.
Unfortunately for Standing Bear, the Superior girls proceeded to quash amy hope of a Grizzle comeback by Meyers again quickly scoring.
Superior's Halie Bargen scored three successive baskets, was fouled and scored a remarkable 9 points in the space of 2 minutes in the third.
The Wildcats continued to double down on defense and offense against Standing Bear, resulting in a 37-17 lead for the Wildcats with 3 minutes, 30 seconds left in the third.
The third period ended with the score Wildcats 42, Standing Bear 24, as Superior continued to control the tempo of the game and the movement of the basketball.
The Wildcat fans cheered loudly when Rayne Biltoft,Superior, swished the basket from 3-point land near the top of the key, making the lead 56-27 with only 1 minute, 30 seconds left in the game.
Standing Bear High School responeded and the game ended with Superior Wildcats 56, Standing Bear Grizzlies 33.
