Lady Cats win over Sandy Creek

Saturday afternoon, the Superior Lady Wildcats moved to 12 - 2 when they won over the Sandy Creek Cougars 49-25 at Sandy Creek. The win was not as easy as the score would suggest. At the half, the Cougars lead 18-17. The game was tied at 21 early in the third quarter, when the Wildcats went on at 28 to 4 run to finish the game.

To earn their points, the Cougars hit seven three point shots, one two point shot and two free throws. For some unknown reason, their three point shots ceased to drop through the basket mid-way through the third quarter and all of the fourth quarter.

The Wildcats defense was crucial to the last 12 minutes of the game with lots of credit to Halle Bargen who would not let Ryleigh Skulka score. Skulka had completed two three-pointers in the first half and one in the third.

Wildcats had three players in double figures. Reagan Meyers scored 17 (her season average); Saddie Cornell 16 and Halle Bargen 11, Faith Bultler 3 and Ava Kirchhoff 2.

Scoring for the Cougars were Skulka 9, Carrigan Rempe 8, Emma Fisher 4 and Morgan Petr 3.

In recent games, the Lady Wildcats completed less than 50 percent of their free throws. However, Saturday, they completed 10 out 14 free throws which was instrumental in keeping the score close during the early part of the game.

The Cougars completed only 2 of 8 free throws.

The Lady Cats had 11 turnovers and the Cougars 15.

Sandy Creek competes in the C2 division and Superior in the D1 division, so if the two teams meet again it will be in conference competition.
