Raynold John Verkamp

Hastings resident Raynold John "Ray" Verkamp, 91, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska. 

Rosary was Sunday, Jan. 12, at Butler Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, Jan. 13, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hastings with Father Jeremy Hazuka officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Military Honor Guard was at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings.

Ray was born Dec. 6, 1933, in Lawrence, Nebraska, to Leo and Theresa (Kitten) Verkamp. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1952 and Central Community College with a degree in refrigeration. Ray served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 26, 1954 to Jan. 25, 1956. He married Mary Lou Parr on June 14, 1958, at Assumption Catholic Church. 

Ray worked for Hastings Industries, retiring in 1999. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus. 

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Leona (J.B.) Florence, Bernice (James) Selko, and Mary Lou Brunken; brother, James (Zerita) Verkamp; and two infant siblings, Joseph and Rosalia. 

Survivors are his wife,

Mary Lou Verkamp, Hastings;

children and spouses: Kurt Verkamp, Lincoln, Nebraska; Pat and Brenda Verkamp, Omaha; Tami and Mark Jacobi, Juniata; Doug Verkamp, Hastings; and Micheleand Kevin Wright, Hastings; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters:  Clarice andLarry Zastrow , Kansas City, Missouri; Anita Pellan, North Bend, Nebraska; brother: LaVern and Diane Verkamp, Lincoln, Nebraska; and numerous nieces and nephews.
