A two vehicle accident Monday morning in Mitchell County claimed the life of a 44-year-old Jewell man. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the accident occurred about 6:50 a.m. on Highway 14, about a half mile north of C road.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol Crash Logs, a 2010 Tundra pickup driven by Christopher Herz, 39, of Burr Oak was traveling north on K14 and a 2008 Ford Escape driven by Travis Cady, 44, of Jewell was southbound on K14. The vehicles were approaching the 218 mile marker when the northbound pickup driven by Herz crossed the center line and struck the Ford Escape driven by Cady.
Cady was pronounced dead at the scene. Herz was taken to the hospital at Beloit and treated for suspected serious injuries.
The patrol reported Herz was not wearing a safety restraint. Cady was.
The accident happened about 4.5 miles north of Beloit.
Apparently a traffic accident in Jewell County on Jan. 4, claimed the life of Leland McGuire, 20.
The Oliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel in Phillipsburg published an Obituary in Jan. 10 that read in part:
Phillips County resident, Leland W. McGuire, died Jan. 4 in Jewell County as a result of an automobile accident. He was born Feb. 23, 2004, the son of Eddy and Genelyn (Esteller) McGuire.
His funeral was Monday with Richard Cox officiating.
However, the Kansas Highway Patrol Crash Log has not reported the accident and neither this paper or one published in Phillipsburg have been able to crash details.
