JC readers to discuss "Remarkably Bright Creatures"

Jewell County Readers

By

Lola Abram, Jewell, and Mary Ann Kibbe, Beloit, coordinate a group called the Jewell County Readers. The group, started in 2011, gathers about every six weeks to discuss a book they have read. The readers will be meeting on Monday, Feb. 17, to discuss “Remarkably Bright Creatures” by Shelby Van Pelt.

A variety of books and genres have been enjoyed (and sometimes not enjoyed by) the group.  Somewhere between five and ten members usually join in the discussions.  Those discussions currently are held at the Jewell Public Library.

The six weeks between books is negotiable, holidays, personal commitments and other issues like blizzards can impact the date.  The group was scheduled to meet on Monday Jan. 6, but a message from Kibbe stated “We’re going to skip the January book club.”  Do you suppose the weekend ice and snow storm and the closure of Kansas highways may have caused a change in plans?

Thus, the group will meet at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 17th, at the Jewell Public Library to discuss their newest read, the 2022 book “Remarkably Bright Creatures.”  Women who enjoy books, reading and book discussions are invited to join the group. Books are available for checkout at the Jewell Public Library.
