James Alan Carter, 66, the son of Charles and M. Norena (Grim) Carter, was born April 12, 1958, at Concordia, Kansas. He died on Dec. 27, 2024, at the Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Nebraska.
A longtime resident of the area, Jim received his formal education attending the Superior schools and graduated with the Class of 1976. He was employed for a time with a meat packing plant and then worked as a boat mechanic with the Bait & Tackle Shop at Webber.
Jim was united in marriage with Dana Dondlinger on Nov. 15, 1988, at Nelson, Nebraska. In 1997, they moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where they lived until 2000, when they returned to the Superior area. Jim suffered his first stroke that year but recovered to drive a truck with Deweese Sand & Gravel and also operated their loader until his retirement in 2008.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, water skiing and boating. He never lost his love as a mechanic and enjoyed tinkering with engines and helping friends whenever called upon. His greatest love and enthusiasm in life was for his family and he especially treasured the time with his children and grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Kenny Carter.
Surviving are his wife, Dana Carter of Superior; his children and grandchildren: Jessica and Art Valadez and son, Lorenzo, of Las Vegas, Nevada; Justin Carter of Superior and children, Emerson, Briley, Harlan and Creighton; Patrick Carter and wife, Crystal ,of Stanwood, Washington, and children Kylynn, Kinley and Kaycie; Chris Carter and Sierra and children, Logan and Ava; and April Carter of Superior and son, Sawyer. Also surviving are two brothers, Greg Carter of Superior and Ron Carter of Laurel, Maryland, other relatives and his many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 3, 2025, at the Williams Funeral Home in Superior with Pastor Jon Albrecht officiating. Interment will be at the Webber Cemetery.
