The new year of 2025 has arrived, ready or not! Happy New Year! It will take me about two months before I become used to writing 2025 on my checks and other official papers.

This year, looking forward to the new year’s arrival, wasn’t at all like it was in my youth. Then it seemed the days could not fly by fast enough. I could not wait until another birthday would arrive and I would be close to becoming a teenager, getting a driver’s license and graduation from high school. When I became engaged and the wedding date was set for the coming year, the days crawled by. While expecting the birth of my sons in late January and early February, I was longing for those new years to come. New Year parties and gettogethers were always looked forward to. It was once easy to stay up until midnight welcoming in the new year. Now as the years seem to fly by, I’m content to stay home and go to bed before the new year arrives.

There was one New Year I did not want to welcome. Before the arrival of the year known as Y2K we were warned our governments, banks and businesses that were dependent on computers would be crippled when the year 2000 arrived. Thankfully, with it’s arrival the feared computer crashes did not materialize. It is now hard to believe that was 25 years ago.

I now find the days and years flying by too fast. Some smarty posted on social media that there were 362 days left until Christmas 2025. I don’t want to think of it that way. I want to think Christmas 2025 is far into the future and enjoy each day along the way.

With the New Year comes the installation of a new president for our country. I imagine some are looking forward to January 20, 2025 and some are dreading that day. However, the election indicates more are looking forward to rather than fearing that day.

This new year will include many changes and adjustments. For some it may include the birth of a baby, a wedding, health reports, a new career, the completion of college, a special anniversary, or the start of retirement.

Here’s hoping that 2025 will be a happy one.
