Wildcats break losing streak

The Superior Wildcats boys basketball team broke a 21 game losing streak when they won over the Meridian Mustangs Friday evening in Daykin with a score of 49 to 36. The box score was 15 to 11 in the first quarter, tied at 8 each in the second, 10 to nine in the third and 16 to 8 in the fourth.

Saturday, Superior hosted the Centennial Broncos. The Wildcats played a clean, methodical game with a focus on three point baskets, seldom shooting inside the post. The Broncos out scored the Wildcats 57 to 43. The Wildcats did not shoot a free throw until the end of the fourth quarter. The second half Superior out scored Centennial 30 to 26, but it was too little, too late. Colten Butler lead the Wildcats in scoring with 15 points. Jaren Gilbert added 14. Other players adding points were Mason Korb, DeClan Miller and Thomas Mathis.

Deven Slawnyk, a 6'4" senior, led the Broncos in scoring with 17 points. He was followed by Ryan Richters, also a senior, with 13 points.

Last Tuesday, the Blue Hill Bob Cats won over Superior, 64-40. Blue Hill scored 19 points to Superior's 12 in the first quarter. In the second quarter Superior out scored Blue Hill by two points 9 to 7. However, Blue Hill scored 17 to Superior's 8 in the third and finished the game with 21 points in the fourth to Superior's 11.

The Wildcats next play at the Grand Island Cental Catholic Holiday Tournament Friday and Saturday, Dec. 27-28
