ARPA funds placement and funding reporting discussed
The Jewell County Commissioners met on Monday, Dec 9. Commissioners Keith Roe, and Ed Duskie were present. Myka Zadina and Carla Waugh, county clerk, were present at the meeting.
Kevin Peroutek, emergency preparedness coordinator, discussed ARPA funds placement and the federal funding reporting requirements.
Chris Petet reported a gas leak last week; one boiler is fixed, and he is waiting for parts on the second boiler.
Greg Wilson left a bid for working on the C&D Pit at the landfill.
Joel Elkins, general superintendent, reported they placed a full set of tires on one motor grader, and they have too much bounce. Joel said the tires are more like a loader tire. Larry Haskett started as road grader operator. Joel reported the dozer was back from the repair shop. He discussed a bridge project. Ed Duskie discussed road complaints.
Commissioners approved the updated North Central Regional Solid Waste Management Plan.
Keith Roe, Republican, and Darrell Miller, Democrat, were appointed as witnesses for the disposal of the 2023 election ballots and documents and 2022 primary and general election ballots and documents.
Darrell Bohnert, Jewell fire chief, said he has consistently been disappointed in reception of the new digital radio used by the fire department.
Commissioners Roe and Duskie along with Myka Zadina, county clerk elect, attended the multi-county meeting hosted by Osborne County at the Alton Front Porch Event Center and Bakery. The group discussed the following topics: Christmas Eve hours, health insurance and employee raises. Ginger Howell, BCCF, discussed how the foundation has been able to clean up 15 lots in Alton and they have almost completed building their first home for resale. The Bull City Community Foundation’s goal is to increase housing and bring more people to the Alton community. Tracey Barton, KNRC, discussed how they bring a voice and environmental decision making to local government. They are a coalition of counties that is led by commissioners. She also discussed the 5-mile-wide Transmission line corridor.
