In the Dec. 18 issue of the Clay County News, Ashley Swanson reported one Edgar City Council member had resigned and the mayor and two other council members had walked out of the Dec. 10 council meeting following discussion centered around the community’s Fifth Street Project.
During the meeting a newly elected councilman, Kent Kinnaman, asked for the resignation of Mayor Brad Brennfoerder, related to the project and its cost to taxpayers.
Several people in the audience of 20 people agreed with Kinnaman’s sentiments about not being told the truth about the project.
Council members Kelly Andersen and Scott Corman said there was no negligence on Brennfoerder’s part and that the entire council worked on the project details together.
Almost 30 minutes into the meeting, Brennfoerder said they were not coming to a consensus with the discussion and left the meeting.
During this time, Andersen, Corman and Robin Skinner also left.
Skinner has since submitted her resignation. Andersen was leaving the council that night as he did not stand for reelection. It was also Corman’s last meeting as he was defeated in the November election.
The unhappiness surrounds the cost of the projects decorative light poles.
