Wilber-Claytonia outplays Superior

Superior Wildcat boys lost at home to Wilber-Claytonia in Superior Saturday, 36-58.

Trenton Siebecker, coach, said, "We just had an off night. Sometimes those things happen."

Turnovers and fouls in the first half were issues for the Wildcats, pared with Wilber-Claytonia's ability to consistently add points from the free throw line. Even though the Wildcat starters stand over six foot, Wilber-Claytonia had a height advantage.

Wilber-Claytonia scored first. However, the Cats were only down two points at the end of the first quarter. During the second quarter, Wilber-Claytonia gradually pulled away, while the Wildcats got into massive foul trouble. Before the fourth quarter was over, three Wildcats had fouled out and a fourth player had four fouls.

Wilber-Claytonia completed 22 of 30 free throw attempts.

Colten Butler lead the Wildcats in scoring with 8, three others contributed 6.

The Wildcats played Blue Hill in Superior Tuesday night. They will travel to Meridian Friday and then play Centennial at home on Saturday.

They are looking to break a long losing streak (20 games). Fans expect that to happen this year with more experienced players.

"We have a fairly deep team. I expect to be playing eight to nine most games," Siebecker said. "They are a good bunch of boys and work hard."

Playing for the Wildcats Saturday were Colten Butler, DeClan Miller, Mason Korb, Caiden Smullins, Thomas Mathis, Brayton Meyer, Jaren Gilbert, Ryan Kramp and Kash Wenski.

A Wildcat fan said, "They just need to pick up the pace."

The team is coached by Trent Siebecker with Ron Thayer, assisting.

SHS versus Fairbury

The Superior Wildcats out scored Fairbury 9 to 7 in the first quarter, but failed to keep the momentum during the second quarters and trailed 27 to 35 going into the fourth.

They recovered in the fourth quarter, out scored the Fairbury Jeffs 21 to 16. The Cats completed two, three point shots in the last few minutes.

Colten Butler lead the team in scoring with 19 points followed by Thomas Mathis with 11.

Fans said, "If they clock had not run out, Superior would have won the game."

The final score was 48 to 51. Thus the Wildcats continued their long loosing streak.

Junior Varsity

The Superior junior varsity played three games this week and lost all three.
