Lady Raiders drop game to BDS

Last weekend's basketball games got cut in half because of to an ice storm out west. Franklin did not make the trip on Friday night, so the only game for the Lady Raiders came on Saturday when BDS came to play.

The girls played a great first period, but several components of the game came back to haunt the girls in the final three periods.

L-N 12 2 7 12 - 33

BDS 7 17 12 12 - 48

Brynn Harrison scored the first two and the last two point of the first period. In between those points Kara Menke scored eight points that included 4-4 free throws.

Two things made the second period the turning point of the game. BDS made 5 of 7 3-point shots and the Raiders had a number of turnovers, limiting scoring opportunities.

L-N played BDS pretty even in the second half, except at the charity stripe where BDS made 5-5 which accounted for the BDS scoring edge in the last half. Brynn Harrison scored the final four points of the game for L-N

Kara Menke led the Raiders in scoring with 15 and rebounding with 8. Kara and Addison McCloskey each had two assists.

As a team, L-N made 7-8 free throws and had only 9 fouls for the game compared to 11 for BDS. The team had a great first 12 minutes of the game, but could not keep up that play for the whole game.

Statistics: (Scoring – Rebounds – Fouls) Addison McCloskey 2 – 3 – 1; Kali Cassell 2 – 2 – 2; Vali Koehler 0 – 2 – 0; Victoria Koehler 0 – 2 – 0; Hanna Skinner 5 – 0 – 2; Kara Menke 15 – 8 – 0; Maddy Laughlin 0 – 2 – 1; Brynn Harrison 8 – 4 – 3.

The next games before the Christmas holidays include a trip to Shelton on Friday and a home game against EMF (Exeter-Milligan-Friend).
