Marjorie Hartsel, age 101, Jewell, Kansas, resident, died on Dec. 14, 2024, at Minneapolis Health and Rehabilitation, Minneapolis, Kansas.
Marjorie Ilene Hartsel was born on March 25, 1923, to Harry (Gus) and Bertha (Miller) Divel in Jewell County. She went to school at Pioneer Rural School and grew up on a farm southwest of Jewell with a sister and two brothers. Marjorie graduated from Jewell Rural High School in 1941. She went to work for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 10 years. She married Kenneth Hartsel May 5, 1946. They lived on a farm southeast of Jewell. She helped her husband on the farm and sold Avon over the years. She enjoyed cooking and baking pies and her baked beans.
Three children were born to this union: Ricky Kenneth, Debra Ann and Tamara Sue. She enjoyed going to sporting events and other activities of her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth in 1983; her parents; sister, Louise McGaughey; and brothers, Lawrence (Pete) Divel and Rex Divel; brothers-in-law, Edward McGaughey, Paul Hartsel and Chet Canary; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Divel, Barbara Divel, Doris Divel, Dorothy Canary and Carol Hartsel.
Survivors include: Rick (Monica) Hartsel, Concordia; grandchildren, Bryan (Kelsey) Hartsel, Wichita, Julie Hartsel, Wichita, and Melissa (Tevin) Robinson, Manhattan.
Deb (Robin) Griffeth, Jewell; grandchildren, Chad Griffeth, Chaska, Minnesota, Sarah (Doug) Spencer, Marion, Kansas and Kelly (Teresa) Griffeth, Glen Elder; great-grandchildren, Owen, Grant and Graycn Spencer, Marion, Kansas, Wadyn, Kaleb, Kapaun, Landon, and Brendan Griffeth, Glen Elder.
Tami (Mark) Baxa, Salina; grandchildren, Ken (Kylene) Baxa, Salina, Dane (Daniele) Baxa, Wichita, and Jenny (Joseph) Bollman, Frederick, Colorado; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Easton, Ren, Nela and Malia Baxa, Wichita, Kenzie, Aubrie and Benjamin Baxa, Salina, Hank and Rudy Bollman, Frederick, Colorado.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m., Friday, Dec. 20, at Kleppinger Funeral Home, Jewell, with the family receiving friends from 4 to 6 p.m.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 21, at the Trinity Methodist Church, Jewell, with Pastors Keith Shank and Jim Rice officiating.
Internment will follow the service at Wallace Cemetery, Jewell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Solomon Valley Transportation or Trinity Methodist Church, Jewell.
