Slowly the Superior Police Department is returning to its authorized strength of four officers following an extended time with only one officer to cover the community 24-7.
The newest member to join the force is Jonathan Spangler. He was graduated Thursday from the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center and was sworn in as a Superior office on Friday afternoon. The Grand Island course was 16 weeks long.
Spangler comes to Nuckolls County from Holdrege where he worked as a correctional officer at the Phelps County Jail. Prior to that he had worked seven years in construction. He is a 2015 graduate of Axtell High School.
In his off time, he enjoys hunting and fishing and has a border collie as a pet.
A fourth officer is expected to join the force in the next few days. He is coming to Superior from Kansas. As an experienced law enforcement officer, he does not need to attend the training center but he must first pass a proficiencey exam.
