Sacred Heart Church has Christmas brunch

Sacred Heart Church in Nelson, had their annual Christmas brunch Sunday. Before Mass started, the basement kitchen counters were filled with freshly baked casseroles and breakfast items. It didn't take long for the entire church to fill up with these delicious aromas, making it hard not to sneak downstairs before Mass was complete. Casseroles and breakfast items made from family recipes filled two long tables. Everyone enjoyed the large selection of items. No one left hungry. After finishing breakfast, people talked and joked with one another for a long time. This was delightful to see. Father Birkel was touched by all the cards and gifts he received.

In preparation for Christmas, people began finishing decorations inside the church. The nativity scene needed to be put together. The heavy containers of the nativity scene were brought up from the basement, and everyone worked together arranging the nativity scene in front of the altar.

Phil Wehrman, Peggy and Don Cassell met at the church on Monday, at 2 p.m. With a lot of hard work and determination, they set up the outdoor nativity scene in front of the church. The outdoor nativity scene looks spectacular.

The church is now ready for Christmas day! Mass is at 10 a.m. every Sunday morning and the church will be open at different times throughout the Christmas season. Everyone is encouraged and welcome to come spend private time in prayer with our Lord and King.
