Mankato Chamber reviews town's Christmas activities

Mankato Chamber of Commerce minutes

The regular monthly meeting for the Mankato Chamber of Commerce took place Wednesday, Dec. 11 at Bob’s with six members present. President Jason Ortman called the meeting to order. The November minutes were approved as read. Haley Nelson gave a treasurer’s report which was approved. The chamber discussed the Community Birthday Calendars. There are a few to still be picked up at Hair & More. Not as many extras were ordered this year, so they can be purchased at Hair & More for $5.

The chamber continued discussing the annual meeting. The 2025 Annual Meeting will be at 6 p.m., on Monday, Jan. 6. If Bob’s can not cater or host, the chamber will hold the meeting at the community center and have a potluck.

Christmas in Mankato took place Nov. 30. The event was well attended this year. There were more than 120 youngsters that participated in the stocking stroll. The chamber sold $475 worth of raffle tickets. Winners were, three months of free internet, Heather Serres; Family Pool Pass, Amanda Anderson; Golden Ticket to the Ute, Elliot Kimminau; $100 in Chamber Bucks, Tori Jacobs; adult punch card prize basket, Dakota Alvarez, Kids punch card basket, Phoenix Anderson and the  Storefront Decorating Contest, School District 107 office. Jewell County Community Foundation and City of Mankato helped sponsor the event.

There were several events that took place throughout the evening. Thanks to the following: Jewell County Helping Hands Ministry, Jewell County 4-H Council, UTE Theatre, Diane Freeman, Kathryn Dunstan, Deb and Darrell Bohnert and family, Jen Urbaniak, Crazy Tacos N More, Jeff Sells, Mike and Leigh Gritten and Mankato businesses who donated for the punch card baskets, decorating contest and stocking stroll, decorating contest judges; Anthony Roy, Kyra Gritten, Loreita Dunstan, Phyllis Liggett and Nadine Smith, Brenda Flinn,  Justin Schoonover and Shelby Dinard and the Christmas in Mankato Committee members for volunteering their time to make this event a success.  

The chamber reviewed the current scholarship applications. After review, it was decided no changes need to be made. The application will be sent to to the school with a Friday, April 4, due date. 

The chamber discussed expanding the Chamber Bucks to the whole county instead of just Mankato Businesses. Discussion for this is tabled until the annual meeting. 

The chamber will host a tailgate on Friday, Feb. 14, at the home basketball game. They will serve pulled pork, chips, baked beans and desserts from 5:30 to 7:30 that evening. There will be two shifts for volunteers who want to help, one from 5 to 6:30 and one from 6:30 to 8. Haley Nelson will send out an email as it gets closer to find volunteers to help work and donate desserts. 

The next meeting is the annual meeting.
