Christmas in Superior
Once Upon a Christmas is the headline event this week in Superior but there are a number of other seasonal holiday activities that area residents will want to participate in.
Preschool through fifth grade youngsters will want to participate in Santa’s Helpers Workshop from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Superior Presbyterian Church.
To participate the youngsters must use the QR code published in last week’s edition of The Superior Express and pre-register.
At the workshop, the youngsters will be able to purchase gifts for their loved ones for the low price of only 50 cents. The youngsters are also asked to bring the exact change.
The New Red Shed located at 903 Hartley Street will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday to help with holiday shopping ideas. There will be soaps, jams, jelly, candy, children’s books, air fresheners, meat and cheese boxes plus the best junk in town available for purchase.
More than 30 vendors will display their wares at the annual winter bazaar at the Nelson City Auditorium from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The Nelson Volunteer Fire Department will serve lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Santa Claus is scheduled to visit with youngsters at the bazaar from 2 to 3 p.m.
The Nuckolls County Historical Society’s annual Christmas program will be presented at 2 p.m. Sunday at the museum church. After the program cookies will be available in Pioneer Hall.
The Edem Soul Music program will be presented at 7:30 Saturday evening in the Red Cloud Opera House.
Candy Cane Lane is open in Lincoln Park from 6 to 9 p.m. each evening when weather permits. This Friday and the following Friday there will be hayrack rides departing from the Scout Cabin. Chili, hot chocolate, S’Mores, hot dogs and hot apple cider will be available those nights in the Scout Cabin.
The Superior middle school and high school music students will present their winter concert in the high school gym starting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12.
The Lawrence Community Club is sponsoring a Holiday Tour of Homes from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Featured homes include those of Randy and Leslie Lemke, Curt Bolte, Ben and Courtney Hansen and Kyle and Lisa Faimon. Santa Claus and the Grinch are expected to visit the Lawrence American Legion at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15.
Kevin and Heidi Cheng will present a Christmas concert at the Living Faith Fellowship Church starting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11.
The popular Christmas in the Barn feature with a live nativity scene returns to the calendar this year at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15, and 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18. The feature is held at the Mike and Deb Worm farm one-half mile east and three-fourths of a mile south of the Webber Cemetery. At this time, additional helpers are needed to assist with the program.
