Superior stores preparing for holiday shopping season

This week’s edition of your newspaper is smaller than what for many years was the Thanksgiving Week tradition.

Traditionally the Holiday Shopping Season began on the Friday after Thanksgiving, a day now known as Black Friday, and continued through Dec. 24. That is still true but thanks to the declining service provided by the U.S. Postal Service, we can no longer count on a newspaper entered into the mail on Thanksgiving Week reaching customers before the opening of holiday shopping on Friday. As a result, a number of advertisements related to shopping opportunities on this Friday and Saturday were included in last week’s issue. Many, but not all, also appear in this issue. The Ideal Market and Bomgaar’s flyers included in last week’s edition advertised shopping opportunities available this week.

If you didn’t save last week’s issue, those flyers can be reviewed by going to our E-edition which is found at superiorne.com. E-edition subscriptions are included at no charge with print subscriptions and can be bought separately.

In this issue Central National Bank has purchased a full-page giving information about many of the special holiday events going on in the community in the next month. An attempt was made to include all events this newspaper knew of, but without question some folks will be left out because they hadn’t told us about what they were planning. Hopefully, they will remember to keep the newspaper office informed in the future.

Special events this week include the opening of Candy Cane Lane on Friday. This is the 22nd year for the popular Lincoln Park attraction.

Letters to Santa Claus may be left in a special Candy Cane Lane Box. The staff and Home Federal Bank will make sure the letters are delivered to Santa and if the youngsters’ mailing addresses are included, Santa or a member of his staff will send a reply back.
