Mankato Garden Club decorates Christmas pots

Five members of the Mankato Garden Club gathered Saturday to decorate 24 pots for Christmas in Mankato.

Marlene Brown was the first member to arrive and swiftly organized the members arriving so each person could uniquely decorate the pots with artificial Christmas tree branches, seasonal ribbons, acorns painted white and nice bold touches like lollipop shapes.

Some pots were on the sidewalk in front of various businesses on Commercial or Main Street, and others were at locations including the Mankato U.S. Post Office and Mankato Library.

Along with the decorated Christmas pots, painted and decorated used wooden pallets were already in place on little wooden stands in front of some businesses.

The large pine cones on a stick the Garden Club used to decorate some of the Christmas pots were purchased, but other pine cones are actually from Colorado, according to Brown.
