Richard (Dick) Dumler, 93, of Oak, died Nov. 6, 2024, following a short illness. He was born in York, Nebraska, on May 21, 1932, to the Rev. Henry and Elsie Dumler. Following graduation from Davenport Nebraska High School he entered the US Air Force and completed more than 20 years of service retiring as a SMSgt in 1972. He was a veteran of Korea and Vietnam wars. He was flying crew chief on the B-36 Peacemaker, B-52 Stratofortress and KC-135 Stratotanker in the Strategic Air Command (SAC) and received numerous awards for exceptional meritorious service excelling in every assignment in the Air Force. Following his Air Force retirement, he continued in aviation maintenance serving as leader of the maintenance department for Fix Based Operators in Austin Texas. He was a Designated Airworthiness Representative and continued as an aviation consultant until finally putting his tools down in 2013. Following retirement, he traveled around the country. He returned to Davenport, his hometown, and eventually settled in Oak. He enjoyed playing card games and square dancing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Henry Dumler and Elsie Dumler; sister, Corinne Weyhrich; brother, Kenneth Dumler; sister, Elsie Holtzen; brother, Martin Dumler; and sister, Constance “Connie” Cogger.
He is survived by his former wife, Hazeldean Dumler, Austin, Texas; son, Bruce (Cathy) of Dayton, Ohio; girlfriend, Sharon Andersen, Oak; grandchildren: Elizabeth Chicago, Illinois, Emily Colbert (Caleb) of Liberty Township, Ohio, Erin Dumler of Dayton, Ohio; and great-grandson, Griffin Colbert of Liberty Township, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews, friends and veterans.
His funeral with full military honors was held at 10:30 a.m., at Christ Lutheran Church Davenport, Nov.16, 2024. Interment of ashes will be in Austin, Texas, at a future date.
