Tuesday a Nuckolls County resident called this newspaper reported traudulent phone calls, emails, and text messages are targeting local residents.
The caller said a scam more than 20 years old has returned to separate our friends and neighbors from their hard-earned money.
The scammers state that they are calling from places like Publishers’ Clearing House. American Family Publishing or a sweepstakes or lottery organizations and promise big awards.
The scammers will ask the victim provide money or gift-cards to secure a cash prize, or will ask the victim to meet up to collect a large prize, such as a vehicle, boat or motor home.
Legitimate sweepstakes organizations will never ask a winner to provide money or to travel to collect a prize.
