RHHS volleyball falls short in state bid

It ended too soon for the storybook Roc Hills High School volleyball team. Capping off their most successful regular season capaign ever with a 33-3 record, they held high hopes for the post season. They breezed through the regional bracket at Mankato last Tuesday.They disposed of Decatur Community 25-22 and 25-9. They punched their ticket to sub-state play with their two-set 25-17 and 25-11 trouncing of Rawlins County. Because of their record, the Grizzlies hosted the sub-state matches at Mankato Saturday. At stake was a place at the state championship. The Grizzlies edged Osborne 25-12, 15-15 and 25-11 to face off against the St. Francis Indians for a place at the state D1-1 match. The Grizzlies fell in the closely contested first set 25-27. They rebounded for a 25-21 win to even up the series. Unfortunately for the Grizzlies they were edged out 26-28 for a heartbreaking loss and elimination from post-season play.

The Grizzlies compiled their best ever season record and have so much to be proud of.

Halle Mizner led the Rock Hills killers against Rawlins County with 12. Dacey Beck and Savannah Coil kicked in four kills each. Bethany Simmelink and Carsyn Vizner accounted for two kills apiece. Taygen Meier and Faith Reinert had one kill each. Coil lashed through two aces. Simmelink scored with an ace. Mizner held the net with 15 kills against Osborne. Coil stood by with six kills. D. Beck nailed four kills. Simmelink added two kills. Vizner finished the match with one kill. Simmelink punched through three aces. Coil, Mizner and Vizner each scored with an ace.

Mizner jammed down nine kills against Decatur. Coil dropped down eight kills. Simmelink and Vizner accounted for three kills each. D. Beck collected two kills. Alex Fogo had one kill. Simmelink blasted through two aces. Coil, Meier, Mizner and Vizner each scored with ace.

Mizner posted 18 kills against St. Francis. Coil provided 11 kills. Vizner added five kills. D. beck listed three kills. Fogo and Simmelink put away two kills each. Simmelink and Vizner slipped through two aces apiece. Ally Beck and Coil each scored with an ace.

It was the final game of their Rock Hills High School volleyball career for seniors Vizner, Reinert and Meier.
