The Superior High School volleyball team breezed through their opening round Southern Nebraska Conference tournament match, Monday, when they swept Sandy Creek in two sets.
Things went downhill from there. Fairbury, a Class C1 team with a winning record handed the Wildcats a five-set, 25-22, 17-25, 25-21. 22-25 and 14-16, loss, to relegate Superior to the third place match last Tuesday at Milford. The C1 Milford Eagles put the Wildcats in fourth place with a four-set loss, 20-25, 20-25, 25-20 and 25-10, at Milford, Thursday, to give Superior a fourth place finish.
Superior visted Sandy Creek Tuesday for a match with results unavailable at press time.
Reagan Meyers led the Wildcat killers against Milford with 23. Halle Bargen smashed down eight kills. Cora Schnakenberg notched six kills. Sadie Cornell kicked in four kills. Ava Kirchhoff and Khloe Mundorf each had a kill. Faith Butler lined through three aces. Cornell and Meyers arrowed through two aces apiece. Halle Bargen and Mia Gardner each scored with an ace. Meyers crammed down 41 kills against Fairbury. Bargen listed seven kills. Schnakenberg added five kills. Cornell finished the match with four kills. Jordan Duncan posted one kill. Cornell lined through five aces. Bargen and Meyers each scored three aces. Jordan Duncan and Gardner each scored an ace.
Superior plays their final match of the season today (Thursday) at the high school gymnasium when they face off against Grand Island Central Catholic. It is the Senior and Parents Night
match.
Superior is currently in the number three position of the wild card points standings when they head into sub-district play Monday. The site for the sub-state matches has not been posted as of press time. Superior will be in the sub-district Class D1-7 bracket with Blue Hill, Deshler and Red Cloud.. Play will conclude Tuesday.
