It was a rough Friday outing for the Superior High School football team as they traveled to Wood River for a game with the Eagles. The Wildcats stayed within reach of Wood River after the first quarter, trailing only 14-6. Wood River dominated the second quarter by scoring two touchdowns and holding the Wildcats scoreless to take a 28-6 lead into halftime.
Matters did not improve for Superior over the next two quarters as Wood River scored in the third and fourth quarters while limiting Superior to eight points in the fourth quarter for a 42-14 win.
Lincoln Sander completed four of 14 pass attempts for 17 yards. Kyler Boyles failed to complete his lone pass attempt.
Kamden Boyles reeled in two passes for 16 yards. Trey Blau recorded one completion for three yards. Kyler Boyles had a two yard loss with his one reception.
Kyler Boyles carried the ball 21 times for 130 yards and found the end zone for two touchdowns. Sander took the ball 10 times to cover 52 yards. Kamden Boyles had four carries for 28 yards. Luis Alvardo had four carries for 24 yards. Blau picked up five yards with his lone carry. Colten Butler led the Wildcats defense with five solo tackles. Dayne Clark, Thomas Mathis and Sander recorded three solo tackles apiece. Kamden Boyles and Caiden Smullins contributed two solo tackles each. Blau and Christian Osweiler accounted for a solo tackle each.
Superior hosts Gibbon at Brodstone Memorial Field today (Thursday) for their final regular season game. This is a must win game for the Wildcats if they want to appear in the playoffs for the first time in several years. It is Senior and Parents Night.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
