Lawrence Bouray

Lawrence Clay Bouray, the son of John and Mae (Hobson) Bouray, was born on April 19, 1931, at his home in Rural Republic County, Kansas. He died Oct. 16, 2024, at the Superior Good Samaritan Society home, Superior, Nebraska, at the age of 93 years, 5 months, 27 days.

Lawrence was one of six children. He attended Rosemond and Star country schools and was a Hardy High School graduate. Lawrence was a 58-plus year member of Republic United Methodist Church, being baptized and confirmed on May 9, 1971, by Pastor Loren Silsby. Lawrence served in the United States Air Force from Jan. 5, 1951, to Jan. 5, 1955, during the Korean War. He was a staff sergeant for the 15th Troop Carrier Squadron earning the following medals Korean, UN Service, National Defense Service, Good Conduct, Republic of Korea and the President Unit Citation medals. Upon returning from the war, he was engaged in farming.

On March 11, 1956, he was united in marriage to Margaret Estaline Doxon at Lovewell Methodist Church, Lovewell, Kansas. This union was blessed with five sons.

He was a member of VFW and American Legion. He also served as a church trustee, a 4-H leader and alumni 4-H leader. Lawrence enjoyed farm life and tending to his garden. He always was around to help the boys with their projects, and together they built his home.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Estaline on Jan. 24, 2021; son, Verle; his brothers, Richard and Wilmer; and sisters, Genevieve Hull, Geraldine Osborne and Vivian Kintigh.

He is survived by his sons, Lawrence Jr. Norman (Theresa) of Newman, Kansas; Myron Lyle of Hardy, Nebraska, Kent Olen (Betty) of Republic and Darwin Albert (Suzann) of Grand Island, Nebraska; 13 grandchildren, Cecelia, Cheryl, Jami, Jacki, Nathan, Nel, Vanessa, Klay, Dillon, Xavier, Xandra, Mason and Marek; 18 great- grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends.

His funeral was held at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, from the Republic Community Church in Republic with Lance Rundus officiating.

Music was Amazing Grace and I'll Fly Away with Stephanie Thayer as the soloist and Charlotte Seybold as her accompanist.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

Pallbearers were Klay Bouray, Xavier Bouray, Dillon Bouray, Kirk Bouray, Brad Bouray and Kyle Bouray. Honorary pallbearers were Cecelia Dilley, Cheryl Williams, Jami Benyshek, Jacki Brolhorst, Nathan Bouray, Neil Bouray, Vanessa Lundgren, Xandra Bouray, Mason Bouray and Marek Bouray.

Interment with military honors was in the Rosemound Cemetery, Republic.
