Dennis Dee Melvin, the son of Garth and Alice Irene (Blevins) Melvin, was born on Oct. 2, 1946. He died on Oct. 17, 2024, at his home in Nelson, Nebraska, at the age of 78 years and 15 days.
Dennis attended school at Nelson. He was married to Marilyn and they later divorced. He served in the Armed Forces during the Vietnam war from 1966 to 1968 and was stationed in Germany and Vietnam. He was employed as a mechanic in his father's shop, Melvin's Garage, in Nelson and retired from Reinke Manufacturing at Deshler.
He lived in the communities of Edgar, Angus, Nelson and Aurora throughout his lifetime. He was also a scout master for Troop 165 in Nelson. He was part of the Tai Chi class in Nelson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Garth and Irene; and his infant brother, Douglas.
Survivors include his daughter, Heather (Donald) Tyler of Superior; and son, Michael Melvin of Grand Island.
† His funeral is at 11 a.m. today (Thursday, Oct. 24) at the Nelson Community United Church of Christ, with Pastors Ivan and Joyce Dean officiating.
Burial with military honors will be at 1:30 p.m. at Edgar City Cemetery, Edgar, Nebraska. Memorials are to be sent in care of the family.
