Harmony United Methodist Church of Mankato will celebrate the 150th anniversary of its organization on Sunday, Nov. 3, with an 11 a.m. celebration service followed by a fellowship meal at the Mankato Community Center.
The theme of the 150th celebration is Generations of Grace. Harmony celebrates the legacy of faith passed down through generations and the ongoing impact of the Church. Each generation has contributed to the church's growth and mission.
The congregation invites the community to come to this special celebratory service. It will include a message from the Rev. Karen Rice Ratzlaff, North Central Kansas district superintendent of the Great Plains United Methodist Church. A special emphasis of the service will be the strong tradition of music which has been a vital part of Harmony's 150 years of ministry. The Chancel Choir and the Bell Choir, directed by Pat Grout, have been preparing special selected pieces for six months. Special guest organist will be Nancy Becker, Stockton, and special guest flutist, Stacia Piroutek, Belleville.
Harmony United Methodist Church of Mankato will celebrate not only the legacy of Christian faith but the history of the local church. Harmony has beautiful stained-glass windows in the sanctuary and an 1883 bell in the belfry made at the Troy Bell Foundry, Troy, New York. The original 1909 Hinners Pipe Organ is a superb, striking historic instrument with outstanding tonal qualities. The organ underwent a multi-year, $100,000 restoration beginning in 2012.
With hearts full of gratitude, Harmony celebrates 150 years of faith, community and dedication. The church has been a beacon of hope and love for many generations.
