Sometimes I don’t know if God Almighty has a sense of humor, or if it’s just another test.
As you all know, it is very dry in southcentral Nebraska. I can’t remember the last rain of any consequence. The weathermen tell us ever so often that we have a 20 percent chance of rain . . . but it never happens.
Well, my questioning of God’s sense of humor came from a visit to Superior Monday for a medical appointment. Remember, the weather forecast was for rain Monday.
The rain did not come on the trip down or the visit with a brother-in-law. It came when we sat down for lunch at a local eatery. Just as we started to eat, I felt a spray of water hit me on the head. One spray soon followed, and then another, and another.
By this time I got to thinking someone was playing a trick, but as I didn’t seen anyone behind me doing so, I looked up at the ceiling and there was water dripping down on me.
I quickly looked outside, and yes, it was raining.
The trip home saw us driving in the rain until we got north of Nelson when the rain stopped. By the time we got home to Lawrence, there was hardly any sign it ever rained in Lawrence.
Of all the ways . . . finding out that it was raining while eating lunch?
I hope Superior received a nice rainfall and pray for the same for the whole area.

I have to admit that I am a little ignorant about what money can do in many spheres of life.
I am amazed this election year in just what money does here in our ole home, Nebraska. For example: Before this summer whoever heard of a fellow called Dan Osborn?
The man chose to run for the senate seat as an Independent. That meant he did not receive money from either the Democrats or the Republicans. Just where did all that money come from that he is using to pay for all those TV and radio commercials?
I’m not too smart, but I know someone paid for them.
If you have heard any of his ads, or any of his opponent’s ads, a person gets a pretty good idea. He makes sure that everyone knows he is a very liberal politician and that should give you an idea of where the money comes from.
From what I’ve read and heard there are some very rich people who just love to spend their money on ideas they think should be happening. In the political world they love to go into places that conservatives think are safely in the conservative ranks in Congress and try to pick off a seat or two throughout the country. Nebraska Senators sort of filled that bill.
If I understand it correctly, it doesn’t make any difference if they actually win, or not. They would love it, if they won, but if they don’t, there will be another election in a couple of years and they will try again.
I actually have no proof of where his money is coming from, but if this is like earlier elections, some very rich people (many from California and/or New York) are paying for this poor man to make a fool of himself, right here in our home state, Nebraska.
The election itself will prove whether or not I’m correct, but I don’t think most Nebraskans will buy what he is selling. What he is selling sounds very much like what most all Liberal Democrats are trying to sell.
Folks . . . don’t buy it.

Another item to think about for this election is the abortion questions on the ballot.
I urge you to vote for Initiative 434.
It would retain the current protection of women and babies that Nebraskans have set up over the past 40 years or so.
Initiative 434 was started by medical professionals and includes current abortion-related safety laws including informed consent, parental notification, and licensing and inspection requirements for abortion facilities.
In general, do you really want Nebraska to be a state known as a destination for women to go to, to obtain an abortion?
Please vote against Initiative 439.
It is “Unsafe,” “Unregulated,” and “Un-Nebraskan.”
In general, the law has used purposefully vague and abstract terms to drastically expand abortions in Nebraska.
Out-of-state special interest groups and America’s largest abortion corporation are funding initiative 439. They stand to profit from increased abortions in Nebraska. Again, there is that “money” issue. Out of state interests think they are smarter than Nebraskans and can “buy” our votes. (We know they may be richer, but I don’t buy for a minute they are smarter.)
