The Nuckolls County Knights, a cooperative program between Superior and Lawrence-Nelson Middle Schools, hosted the Exeter-Milligan-Friend Bobcats at Lawrence last Monday. After a hard fought first half, the Knights roared back for a 66-26 win.
The Knights held a tenuous 18-12 lead at half time. They came out inspired and quickly took care of business with their smothering defense and fast acting offense.
Mike Sander, head coach of the Knights, said, “This team is such a blessing to coach. They played their best game of the season against a very talented and physical E-M-F team. I am so incredibly proud of them.”
Camden Wehrman completed seven of his nine pass attempts for 170 yards and one touchdown. Joel Hoelting snagged four receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown. Kade Peters landed two receptions for 32 yards. Levi Clark picked up 58 yards with his lone reception.
Wehrman led the Knights ground game with 147 yards on seven carries. He manufactured four touchdowns. Peters carried the ball six times for 89 yards and two touchdowns. Siemsen picked up 12 yards with his three carries while scoring a touchdown.
Ian Zikmund led the defense with 17 tackles. Peters secured 12 tackles. Wehrman added 10 tackles. Darian Chavez and Bentley Duncan had five tackles each. Hoelting and Siemsen added four tackles apiece. Barrett Bruns and Clark claimed two tackles each. Korbin Kirchhoff had a tackle.
The Knights close out their season today (Thursday) with at game at Rock Hills in Mankato. Kick off is set for 6 p.m.
