The monthly meeting for the Mankato Chamber of Commerce took place last Wednesday at the Mankato City Park with six members present.
The chamber members discussed the community birthday calendars. Information for the calendars has been submitted but they are waiting on a picture. The Community Garden Club picture is ready so if the scout picture isn’t sent, that picture will be used.
The Garage Sale Mall took place during the Highway 36 Treasure Hunt, Sept. 19 through 21. There were 10 booths rented this year. It cost the chamber $225 to use the city building.
The chamber continued discussing the annual meeting. The 2025 Annual Meeting will be on Monday, Jan. 6 Ortman has contacted a caterer if the chamber is unable to find a school organization to do so.
Plans were made for a work day at 1 p.m., Sunday, at the old Pizza Hut lot to repair damaged decorations for the Christmas in Mankato event. The next meeting to continue planning the event will take place today (Thursday) at noon at the Farmway Credit Union basement.
Downtown Trick-or-Treat will take place on Thursday, Oct. 31, from 3:30 to 5 pm. The Pumpkin Decorating Contest will also take place that day. Individuals are asked to drop pumpkins off at the bench in front of the museum from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. that day and come back promptly at 5 p.m. to pick up their pumpkins when the winners are announced. Each participant will get a free ice cream token from the Sweden Creme. There will be a first and second place prize for the two age groups. The age groups are 10 and under and 11 and above. Flyers have been distributed for the events. The chamber still needs 4 to 5 judges to judge the pumpkin decorating contest. Jason Ortman and Jeff Sells both volunteered to help judge. Other individuals will be contacted about judging.
Members are still working on finding information for a defensive driving course.
The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the Senior Center.
