Eckles installed as P.E.O. reciprocity group XI president

P.E.O. Chapter J members Carol Eckles, Deb Troudt, Sue VanSkiver and DeAnna Tuttle attended the P.E.O. Reciprocity Group XI brunch and annual meeting held at Lochland Country Club in Hastings on Oct. 5.

The business meeting included recognition of 50 plus year members, Nebraska State Board report by Jane Van Horn, president of the Nebraska State Chapter, P.E.O. Home report by Marnie Soderquist, director, and a report on the enrollment and curriculum at Cottey College. It was also announced the 2031 National Convention will be held in Omaha and assistance will be needed.

Election and installation of officers for the upcoming year was held. Carol Eckles of Nelson Chapter J was installed as president. Chapter J will host the Oct. 11, 2025 meeting of the Reciprocity Group.

The group was then treated to a program detailing the quilt made entirely of scraps by Jane Stickler during the Civil War. The quilt was made up of 169 blocks of 3-1/2 to 5-inch squares, all of which are different in design. The original is in a museum in Vermont but a replica made by a local quilter was on display during the meeting. The pattern was obtained from a book published in 1996. Some members of the local quilting group, including Carol, are planning to obtain a copy of the book.
