SHS volleyball team goes 4-0 for the week

It was a successful few days for the Superior High School volleyball team. They won all four of their matches while taking over second place in the wildcard point standings.

The Wildcats pulled out a 3-2 win over the Fairbury Jeffs at Fairbury Thursday. The C 1 Jeffs sported winning record. Superior prevailed in a hard played match, 22-25, 25-17, 18-25, 25-21 and 15-13. The Wildcats were in Hastings Saturday for the Adams Central Invitational tournament. The Wildcats were again playing way above their class with C 1, C 2 and B schools. They swept the Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals, 25-19 and 25-19 in two sets. The Gering Bulldogs, a Class B school with a winning record, was downed in three sets, 23-25, 29-27 and 25-20. Last to fall to Superior was Class C 1 Broken Bow, also with a winning record, who were three-set losers, 16-25, 25-18 and 26-24 to Superior. The Wildcats opened play at the Hastings St. Cecilia tournament Tuesday with match results unavailable at press time.

Reagan Meyers held the net with 35 kills against Fairbury. Halle Bargen slammed down eight kills. Ava Kirchhoff added three kills. Cora Schnakenberg tallied two kills. Sadie Cornell had one kill. Meyers laced through four aces. Cornell and Schnakenberg pierced through three kills each. Bargen and Mia Gardner posted two aces. Cornell scooped up 17 digs, Meyers elevated 12 digs. Faith Butler accounted for 10 digs. Bargen and Gardner lifted up nine digs apiece. Schnakenberg added three digs.

Meyers notched 18 kills against Doniphan-Trumbull. Bargen wiped down nine kills. Schnakenberg had one kill. Cornell, Gardner and Meyers each scored with an ace. Butler led the diggers with eight. Bargen, Cornell and Gardner contributed six digs apiece. Meyers finished with five digs.

Meyers was the top killer against Gering with 32. Bargen listed nine kills. Schnakenberg put down three kills. Butler and Kirchhoff had a kill apiece. Bargen, Cornell, Meyers and Schnakenberg each scored with an ace. Gardner cleaned up with 19 digs. Meyers came away with 14 digs. Bargen set up 12 digs. Butler and Schnakenberg tipped up seven digs each. Cornell added six digs. Jordan Duncan had two digs.

Meyers topped the Wildcat kill list against broken Bow with 18. Bargen recorded eight kills. Kirchhoff registered four kills. Cornell secured three kills. Khloe Mundorf and Butler accounted for two kills each. Gardner and Schnakenberg had one kill apiece. Meyers whipped through five aces. Cornell lined through two aces. Gardner swept up 17 digs. Cornell came through with 13 digs. Butler and Meyers were good for nine digs each. Bargen put up seven digs. Schnakenberg tallied five digs. Mundorf had a dig.

Superior will play the final rounds of the Hastings St. Cecilia Invitational today (Thursday) at Hastings.
