Nuckolls County Knights suffer first loss of season

The Nuckolls County Knights Middle School football team dropped their first game of the season at Brodstone Memorial Field last Monday. The team is a co-op program with Superior and Lawrence-Nelson.

It was a hard fought contest with Deshler edging the Knights 28-20. The Knights suffered a rash of injuries which hindered their chances.

Mike Sander, head coach of the Knights, said, “The team from Deshler was big and well-disciplined. Our boys fought hard.”

Camden Wehrman completed six of 12 pass attempts for 122 yards and two touchdowns.

Kade Peters pulled in three receptions for 93 yards and two touchdowns. Joel Hoelting hauled in three passes for 29 yards.

Wehrman led the ground attack with 17 rushes good for 155 yards and one touchdown. Peters gained 20 yards with his 11 carries.

Ian Zikmund was the lead tackler with 15. Peters nailed five tackles. Rhen Siemsen and Wehrman grabbed four tackles apiece. Barrettt Bruns landed three tackles. Levi Clark made two tackles. Hoyt Cassell and Jager Griffiths had one tackle each.
