Jewell County Memorial VFW No. 7830 Auxiliary met Tuesday, Sept.17, with six members and one guest present. Guest was Jerri McBride, District 4 Senior vice auxiliary president from Herrington, doing an official visit. Minutes from prior meeting were approved as read and communications read by the secretary were Department President Message, General Orders No. 3, District President Corner, article from Department Treasurer and program coordinator on web-site news. The treasurer’s report was given and filed for audit. A bill for District No. 4 School of Instruction held at Mankato, was presented and paid.

Programs reported on were veterans and family support, Americanism, auxiliary outreach, Buddy Poppy and VFW National Home, extension, historian, hospital, legislative, membership, scholarship and youth.

New business held several things to discuss. The members voted on giving Gold Star Family gift certificates in honor of Gold Star Mother-Family Day on Sunday, Sept. 29. Donations were made to the Patriotic Scholarship Fund, Department President’s special project and Wreaths Across America.

The auxiliary will continue to support the SRU (Soldier Recovery Unit) at Fort Riley with a list of needed items posted at the Mankato Plumbing and Appliance Store. Items to be brought by Friday, Oct. 4, to be taken to the District No. 4 meeting in Manhattan on Oct. 5. Discussion concerning the Christmas in Mankato storefront decorating contest was brought to the floor, with need of someone to volunteer to help judge the contest. Also members voted to do Trunk & Treat again this year for Halloween.

District No. 4 Sr. Vice Jerri, spoke to the members and noted the National VFW Auxiliary President, Brenda Bryant will be making her official visit to Kansas on Oct. 11 through 13, and will coincide with the Eisenhower Vigil in Abilene on Friday, Oct.11. She thanked the auxiliary for their work they are doing for their veterans, families, youth and community.

Meeting was adjourned following closing prayer and National Home Prayer. The next meeting will be at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct, 8, at the post. All members are encouraged to attend.
