Harold Eugene Soper, 80, the son of Vern Wesley and Opal (Norwood) Soper, was born March 7, 1944, at Superior. He died Sept. 15, at the Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior.
Harold received his formal education attending school at Bostwick and graduated from the Hardy High School. He was employed for a period of time with Ideal Cement in Superior and then on Oct. 28, 1965, he enlisted to serve his country during the Vietnam War and served until his discharge on June 10, 1966.
Harold lived in Los Angeles and worked as a heavy equipment operator at the city landfill. He was married to Nancy Jones and this union was blessed with two children, Travis and Dawn. The marriage later ended in divorce.
On March 26, 1992, Harold was united in marriage with Peggy Joyce Boyakin at Los Angeles. Peggy preceded him in death in 2011. Harold returned to Hardy to live for the past 13 years. As he was in failing health, his sister, Linda, moved back to help care for him
In Hardy, he enjoyed raising rabbits and watching the old reruns on TV. He was an avid fan of the Nebraska Husker football program.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Wanda Allgood; and a nephew, Greg Anderson.
Survivors are his children, Travis Soper of Canyon, Texas and Dawn Byars of Corpus Christi, Texas; sisters, Mrs. Leonard Dehut (Sharon) of Los Angeles, California; Jeanette Wampole of Grand Island, Barb Jone of Hebron, and Lynda Paulk of Hardy; a brother, Gary Soper of Hardy.
Services were at 11 a.m.,Tuesday at the Williams Funeral Home in Superior with Pastor Jon Albrecht officiating.
