SHS football falls to Cross County

Once again it was a tale of two halves. For the first two quarters, Superior and Cross County played to a 6-6 tie at Stromsburg Friday. Defensive lapses in the third quarter allowed the Cougars to open up a 20-6 lead after three quarters. When the Superior offense faltered, Cross County put the game out of reach with a fourth quarter score to leave the field with a 26-6 win and Superior with a 1-2 record for the season.

Lincoln Sander completed 14 of his 26 pass attempts for 161 yards. One reception was good for a touchdown. Two passes were intercepted. Sander suffered a late game injury and was replaced by Dominic Page. Page completed all three of his passes for 30 yards.

Dayne Clark clamped onto four passes to gain 92 yards and score the lone Wildcat touchdown. Kamden Boyles hauled in five passes for 36 yards. Caiden Smullins grasped onto three receptions for nine yards. Kyler Boyles secured two passes for 34 yards. Colten Butler latched onto two passes for 22 yards.

Kyler Boyles rushed for 119 yards with his 22 carries. Sander was at a negative four yards with his four carries. Kamden Boyles picked up 12 yards on two carries. Clark gained two yards on his lone rush.

Kyler Boyles made five solo tackles and six assisted tackles. Kamden Boyles claimed four solo tackles and assisted with five tackles. Smullins recorded three solo tackles and had two assists. Clark landed two solo tackles and four assists. Marcus Martin turned in one solo tackle and five assists. Butler was good for a solo tackle and two assists. Smullins listed two assisted tackles. Thomas Mathis, Christian and Osweiler and Declan Miller contributed a solo tackle and four assisted tackles each. Trey Blau and Sander accounted for an assisted tackle each. Kyler Boyles recorded a sack.

The Wildcats travel to grand Island, Friday, where they take on the Grand Island Central Catholic Crusaders. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
