SHS football wins homecoming game

It was homecoming for Superior High School at Brodstone Memorial Field Friday. The stands were filled to capacity.

The Palmyra Panthers were the opponent. Like Superior, they had lost their season opener. On paper, they seemed to have a distinct size advantage. But paper does not play the game.

Superior scored in the first period to take the first quarter lead.

The second quarter saw the Wildcat offense roll as they scored three touchdowns to take a 27-0 lead at the half. It was a welcome sight, indeed, to see the home team numbers higher than the opposition.

A consistent Superior defense kept the Panthers scoreless in the third quarter.

Palmyra attempted a late fourth quarter comeback when they scored 13 points in quick succession. The clock and Superior's defense ended their effort. The result was a 27-13 Wildcat win and the snapping of a 10 game losing skid.

Lincoln Sander stepped up his passing game, completing 10 of 15 pass attempts for 142 yards and two touchdowns.

Colten Butler pulled in four receptions good for 74 yards and a touchdown. Kamden Boyles reeled in three receptions for 24 yards. Trey Blau landed two receptions for 24 yards. Dayne Clark grabbed one reception for 20 yards and a touchdown.

Kyler Boyles carried the ball 24 times for 139 yards and a touchdown. Sander took the ball 15 times for 80 yards and a touchdown. Clark made one carry good for nine yards. Kamden Boyles ran the ball once for four yards. Butler turned his sole carry into a two yard gain.

Sander and Kamden Boyles recorded an interception apiece.

Kyler Boyles posted seven solo tackles and four assisted tackles. Butler was good for five solo tackles and an assisted tackle. Kamden Boyles made four solo tackles and had three assisted tackles. Thomas Mathis contributed two solo tackles and six assisted tackles. Declan Miller hit with two solo tackles and five assists. Clark listed two solo tackles and four assisted tackles. Christian Osweiler made a solo tackle and assisted with three tackles. Blau had a solo and an assisted tackle. Brayton Meyer and Kash Wenske registered a solo tackle each. Caiden Smullins and Marcus Martin contributed four assisted tackles each. Cooper Ehlers had an assisted tackle.

Kyler Boyles was successful with three of four point after touchdown kick attempts.

Superior travels to Stromsburg, Friday, to take on the 1-1 Cross County Cougars. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
