Our Heavenly Father welcomed home Cheryl A. Feala, 78, of North Bend, Nebraska, on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024. She was born on Feb. 1, 1946, in Superior, Nebraska, to Marvin, Sr. and Lucille (Maruska) Thurber.
Cheryl graduated from Nelson High School in 1964 and earned her nursing education at St. Elizabeth School of Nursing. She was commissioned to the Army Nurse Corps in 1967 and served in Vietnam until 1969. She worked at Brodstone Hospital in Superior and then in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Cheryl married Larry Feala on Nov. 27, 1971, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in North Bend. After marriage, she worked at the Schuyler Hospital and as their children grew older, she continued nursing at the Fremont hospital and then Heartland Orthopedic and Sports Medicine.
She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, she was a 4-H leader for many years, active with the North Bend Area Community Foundation and the North Bend Veterans Memorial Park. Cheryl was a proud patriot and was member of the VFW Post No. 8223 and American Legion Post No. 340. She was full of talents, including sewing, quilting, gardening and painting. Cheryl was the rock of her family.
She is survived by her husband, Larry; daughters, Kenna Feala of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Michaela (Mark) Buckner of Seattle, Washington; sons, Jason (Leigh) Feala, Seth Feala all of North Bend; sister, Janet Warneke of North Bend and eight grandchildren: Drake, Aleksey, and Evan Betancur, Tristyn, Brenna, and Zoey Feala, and Lucas and Elizabeth Buckner.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Francis Butler and Georgia Kempkes; brother, Marvin Thurber, Jr. ,; brothers-in-law, Jerome Warneke and Harry Kempkes.
The Funeral Mass is 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 13, 2024 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in North Bend. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday with a special presentation by the Nebraska Nurse Honor guard at 6:45 p.m., a Wake at 7 p.m. and Rosary to follow, all at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend. Interment will be at Woodland Cemetery in North Bend.
Memorials are suggested to North Bend VFW Post 8223, North Bend-Morse Bluff Veterans Park, St. Charles Catholic Church, or to the family for a future designation.
