Country Roads

My hubby and I may not own a cabin or a summer home, but we do have a “home away from home,” our camper trailer. It takes us wherever we like to go. It can be be parked near a lake to provide a wonderful lake side view. It may take us on a journey to visit relatives or friends that live miles away, it may take us on a winter trip to an RV park in a warmer climate, or it may be stationed at a farmstead where yard and pasture work needs to be done for more than one day. All is done in the comforts of our “home away from home.” where we have our own bed, a familiar kitchen filled with our pots, pans and dishes. It is complete with appliances, recliner chairs, a television and an oh so important, a bathroom. All with the comforts of home in a smaller space.

I must admit it was me that talked my hubby into purchasing our camper trailer. He at first balked just a little. Now he sees the benefits it brings and thankfully he is willing to help prepare it for the travels and transport it where it needs to go. It gets us away from our daily routines and gives us such enjoyment.

Camping at the lakes with friends is a highlight, which includes outdoor picnic meals, bonfires lit for all to sit around on a cool fall night, laughing at stories and memories, and maybe even taking a kayak ride on a calm summer day. There may be roasting of marshmallows, s’mores or hot dogs. Sometimes songs are sung around the campfires. Family reunions and church camp outs are held with our camper trailers parked in a sort of circle, much like the pioneers used to circle their wagons.

I know camper trailers aren’t for everyone but if the bug bites you, go for it. Happy traveling and camping!
