SHS volleyball opens season

The Superior High School volleyball team found the transition from practice to actual game to be tougher than expected.

The Wildcats hosted the Thayer Central Titans at Superior Thursday. Thayer Central came out on top with a three-set, 26-28, 18-25 and 20-25 sweep.

Superior lost the nailbiter first set 28-26. They were unable to generate the needed momentum to stage a comeback.

Superior hosted the Fillmore Central Panthers Tuesday with match results unavailable at press time.

On Thursday, Reagan Meyers stepped up for 19 kills. Halle Bargen slammed down 11 kills. Cora Schnakenberg listed three kills. Ava Kirchhoff and Khloe Mundorf recorded two kills each. Sadie Cornell had one kill.

Mia Gardner and Schnakenberg were good for an ace apiece.

Gardner swept the floor for 16 digs. Cornell contributed 14 digs. Bargen and Meyers added 13 digs each. Faith Butler rang up nine digs. Schnakenberg landed seven digs. Jordan Duncan had a dig.

The Wildcats take to the road today (Thursday) when they visit Lawrence for the annual intracounty bragging rights match against Lawrence-Nelson. Match time is 6 p.m. Superior competes at the Beatrice Invitational Saturday. The Wildcats travel to Doniphan, Tuesday, for a triangular match against Doniphan-Trumbull and Kenesaw.
