Fundraiser a success
The Jewell County Cinema, Inc. (JCCI) board met Aug. 26, at the Mankato Christian Church and on ZOOM. The meeting was called to order by Thadd Hinkle.
Members present were Thadd Hinkle, Phyllis Christie, Sarah Ortman, Lisa Goodheart, and Virgil and Linda Jones in person and Kristin Underwood on ZOOM.
Thadd Hinkle opened the floor for nominations for election of officers. A unanimous ballot to retain the current officers carried. The Jewell County Cinema, Inc. officers for 2025 are: Thadd Hinkle, president; Kristin Underwood, vice-president; Janis McDill, treasurer; Lisa Goodheart, secretary.
The annual meeting was adjourned and the monthly meeting was called to order.
The minutes of the July meeting were read and approved.
There was no treasurer’s report.
In old business, Thadd Hinkle said he has not worked on the marquee, but had placed mouse traps around the theater. The fundraiser brought in an excess of $2,6000 and more donations have been received since Aug. 17. Discussion was held on possibly raising the prices of the food items at the fundraiswer.“Despicable Me 4” did well and a thank you note will be sent to the sponsor of that movie.
More volunteers are needed to run the theater.
In new business, a high school student will be cleaning the theater during the school year, supervised by a paraprofessional.A checklist was created for them to follow. Volunteers who work the Sunday movie will only have to clean the popcorn machine as the student will do the other cleaning. The Christmas in Mankato event is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 30. The planning meetings are on the first Thursday of the month and raffle items are needed. Discussion was held on what the theater could provide. The board approved to show a movie at 3 p.m. on Nov. 30. Discussion was held on upcoming movies. A list was created to schedule if possible: “You Gotta Believe,” “Reagan,” “The Forge,” “This Ends with Us,” “Beetle Juice, Beetle Juice,” “Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 2,” “Piece by Piece,” “The Wild Robot” and “Transformers One.”
