L-N 2024-25 School Year starts with 231 students

The average resident living in the area may not see any difference, but with the start of the 2024-2025 school year, they are starting a new era. A very brief history shows Lawrence and Nelson were each independent districts prior to entering a “Unified” District with Sandy Creek, Superior and Guide Rock.

That combination of schools lasted until Superior and Guide Rock opted to leave the unified cooperation and go back to operating on their own. After that, Lawrence-Nelson merged into one district but still maintained the unified status with Sandy Creek.

Clay Center merged with Sandy Creek and the unification continued until this school year when the school boards voted to end the unification agreement.

To this end, L-N will now operate as its own entity.

That being said, to the 231 students going through the daily tasks required of them, most likely nothing changed. We are merely reporting on the number of students enrolled for the school year.
