Football Friday returns to SHS

The Superior High School football team takes to the turf at Brodstone Memorial Field, Friday, where they will take on the Class C-1 Fairbury Jeffs in the 2024 season opener.

The Wildcats are making a return to 11-man football as they return to Class C-2 play after two seasons of 8-man football at the D-1 level.

The team has a new head coach, Ryan Renz, while returning all the players from last season's roster.

Derek Clark, Cannon Blauvelt and Andrew Diehl are serving as assistant coaches. Treg Vyzourek and Blake Erikson are the volunteer assistants with Cooper Blauvelt as the student manager.

Renz looks to improve on the 0-8 record of last season.

The roster is considerably larger than in recent seasons and allows for greater depth.

Senior class representatives on the team are Caiden Smullins, Thomas Mathis, Lenden Worm, Marcus Martin and Christian Osweiler.

The junior class contingent consists of Dominic Page, Kash Wenske, Colten Butler, Trey Blau, Lincoln Sander, Kyler Boyles, Ryan Kramp, Cooper Ehlers, Dayne Clark, Declan Miller, Davis Hodges, Skylar Cool and Brayden Wulf.

Joe Kerrigan, Ben Kramp, Luis Alvarado, Maddox Martin, Jaren Gilbert and Justice Sander represent the sophomore class. Freshmen class members are Kamden Boyles, Canon Corman, Truett McCord, Cooper Cambron and Keiannah Fuller.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
