Doris Stark

The funeral for Doris Lee Stark will be held on Friday, Aug. 30, at 1 p.m. at the Nelson Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Neb., with Doris' great grand son, Pastor Nicholas Martozie, officiating. A graveside service will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery.

Doris Lee Stark, 92 years of age, of Hastings (formerly of Holdrege and Loomis, Nebraska), died on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024, at The Kensington of Hastings. Doris was born Dec. 20,1931, in Holdrege, the second of three children to Perry and Annie Mae (Long) Sprague. She graduated from Holdrege High School with the Class of 1950. Doris worked at the Dairy Queen in Holdrege while in high school.

On Jan. 12, 1951, she was united in marriage to Walter John Stark, Jr. and to this union the couple was blessed with four children:  Michael, Joy, Beth and Connie. The family made their home two miles north of Loomis for 25 years, where Doris excelled in gardening and sewing. Doris and John moved to Fort Morgan, Colorado, where she took delight skiing in the mountains. They returned to Holdrege where Doris enjoyed hosting family and friends in their home. Doris and John then moved to Hastings to be near family.

Those who knew Doris can relate to the fact she liked to stay busy, whether it be visiting with friends or helping others, she could find something to do!

Doris was a past member of Loomis United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, John; daughter, Connie Stark; grandson, Christopher Lovegrove; sister Dorothy Nelson and her husband, Maynard; brother, Dean Sprague; brother-in-law, Darrell "Dee" Stark and his wife, Beverly; sister-in-law, Betty Stark; and sister-in-law, Kathryn Shield.

Doris leaves to celebrate her life; three children:  Michael Stark (Marletta) of Crete, Nebraska; Joy Stoltenberg (Scott) of Morrill, Nebraska; and Beth Lovegrove of Hastings; and her special friend, John Price of Mankato, Kansas; three grandchildren:  Michelle Myers (Lartee) of Columbia, South Carolina; Kristina Stark of Crete; and Andy Lovegrove of York; granddaughter-in-law, Britni Love- grove (Christopher) of Superior; four great-grandchildren: Corrine Myers, Erin Myers, Nicholas Martozie and Kylee Roberts; sister-in-law, Carrie Sprague of North Platte; brother-in-law, Jerrold Stark of Hays, Kansas; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Doris' wish for cremation. 

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Doris's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
