Colleen M. (Borwege) Kucera, 78, of Deweese, died Aug, 16 at the Hospice House in Omaha. Her wishes were to be cremated. A graveside service will be held at the Blue Valley Cemetery near Ayr at 11 a.m. Oct. 12,
She was born May 18, 1946, to Norbert and LaVona (Armstrong) Borwege in Hastings and graduated from the Bladen Public Schools with the Class of 1964.
Colleen was united in marriage with Leonard J. Kucera, Jr. On March 27, 1971, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Blue Hill. She retired after 43 years as a travel consultant in Hastings.
She was a past member of the Nebraska Horse Clubs Association, Hastings Saddle Club, Nebraska Cowgirls Rodeo Association, All Girls Rodeo Association and the 4B4H 4-H Club, showing Hereford cattle and horses at the Webster County Fair in Bladen. In 1973, she was honored to be awarded the Sportsmanship Award by the Nebraska Cowgirls Rodeo Association, which was her favorite award ever. Even though she liked barrel racing and pole bending, her husband taught her how to team rope.
Though they were never blessed with children, their siblings shared with them. She followed their sporting events, fishing and 4-H. Colleen was an avid Husker Volleyball fan with season tickets.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, on Dec. 5, 2018.
