Annetta Young 

Annetta Lea Young, the daughter of Hugh and Stella (Dugas) Meier, was born on Sept. 9, 1938, in Superior, Nebraska. She died on Aug. 17, 2024, at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital at Hastings, Nebraska, at the age of 85 years, 11 months, 8 days.

Annetta attended the schools in Superior, graduating from Superior High School. She furthered her education at Fairbury Junior College. She was a 70-year member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a current member of St. Cecilia’s in Hastings.

She married Robert Lee Young on June 12, 1957, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Superior. To this union four children were born. Annetta was employed at JC Penney and owned and operated the Kurly Kone while raising her family. Together Bob and Annetta traveled to 48 states and also the Bahamas. They owned and operated the Serving Spoon in Lincoln, Nebraska, for a few years. Annetta was a member of the St. Joseph’s Altar Society in Superior for many years. She enjoyed cross word puzzles and playing cards and belonged to many card clubs. She loved her family and her time with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, her flowers, sewing and craftwork. She will be truly missed. They retired and moved to Hastings, Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Stella; her husband, Bob on Feb. 20, 2023, brother, Thomas Meier; sister, Theresa Doe; and two grandsons, Jace Bushnell and Charlie Fitzke. 

     Survivors include her children, Angela (Mike) Uzeta and Greg (Judy) Young all of Hastings, Alissa (Justin) Bushnell of Superior and Regina (Kevin) Young of Temple City, California; 12 grandchildren; 18+ great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Virginia (Victor) Thayer, Richard (Joni) Meier; and sister-in-law, JoAnn Meier; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Superior. Rosary will be recited at the church and 9:30 a.m. before the mass. Father John Birkel and Rev. Craig Clinch will officiate.

Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Superior, Nebraska.

Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at the Price Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
